    Default Which batting

I am going to make a small lap quilt for a neighbours mother who is house bound and wheelchair. My question is,
It is her knees which 'have gone' (her sons comment) so I need a light weight batting. Which would be the best?

I can't help you with the batting, but what a nice thing to do for this lady. You will be blessed.

Polyester batting will be your lightest weight ... you might want to consider a velcro tab to attach it to your wheel chair, so if it slides off, she can easily retrieve it on her own.

You're welcome ... you know how mobile she is and can take that into consideration.
Another thought is to use a flannelette backing, that will make it less slippery for her ... again, it may not be an issue, as she may have enough mobility to deal with that, and that little extra movement might even be good for her!

Thank you for even thinking about this womans' knees. Sometimes when my knees hurt (not too often), the pressure of my jeans on my knee can be a bit painful. Lightweight is a great idea...plus, the quilt will be lighter so she will be able to rearrange it for her own comfort.

I go to Walmart and buy their thinnest fleece for batting the most lightweight quilts. The quilt will also 'drape' onto the person who is using it very gently, and there are fewer gaps (where air can leak through) like I sometimes see with 'real', thicker batting.

My quilts are quilted on a frame with a HQ16/PC quilter. If you don't have that opportunity, then you need to at least pin baste thoroughly so it isn't too stretchy.

    Have fun!
