I've brought home my new baby Lucy and want to start using her, but I'm just wondering which thread is best on a 301? I've got a project using plastic for a handbag, so which thread for that project and which one for regular fabric sewing?
Thanks!
Blessings,
MaryAnna
I'll post pics when I can take some pics of her.

Good question. I haven't used my 301 (new to me) very much, but I've used either cheap thread (okay, that for me is like coats and clarks). I really don't have any super cheap cheapo thread. When I tested better thread (like Mettler or Gutermann) for other things, I couldn't tell the difference.

I like poly Guterman in the bobbin. It's not very thick, so I can wind more. That little bobbin run out quickly with cotton thread in it. Anything on the top. C&C cotton wrapped poly, okay, Guterman, okay, connecting Threads cotton - linty in the bobbin area, but sews well. Rayon quilting thread in both, okay. In other words, AnnieRose is not a fussy machine.

I use whatever is handy. I have a mix of moderate to high quality thread. I love the Singer 301 and I hope you do too. It runs so well.

Great question. I have a new to me 301A that I brought home about a month ago and haven't started sewing with her yet. I named her Betsy... :-D

I will be interested to see what others say about the thread they use in their 301s.

I would use whatever is appropriate for the project. Probably polyester for strength in a handbag. I use Superior Master Piece for my quilt sewing, but have been doing more hand piecing lately since I started my Stamps by Kate Grandmother's Flower Garden.
