I haven't attempted a "quilt" in a long time. I usually make table centers, and smaller projects... Being laid off, I want to start using my "stash", but there is so much and so many different colors. I'm terrible at putting colors together, sooooo is there a good pattern out there that I could use hodge podge. Nothing too small and of course not complicated..,. Help, people......

String quilts are awesome, fun, and quick to make! Right now I"m doing a scrappy jewel box quilt with scraps on a black background. It's been fun also, but there are 48 pieces to each block. You can also google scrap quilts and come up with tons of projects.

The disappearing 9 patch is what I wanted to do, but I have so many different colors that each square would be different and I don't know if they will go together. I do not have the "eye" for putting things together. Can I just start cutting and sewing?? LOL. Could the cut pieces be mixed???

Lucky Stars by Atkinson Designs is very quick and easy. It takes 1 fat quarter plus 1 3.5" strip of background fabric for each block. After you cut the pieces, you mix them up. It's fun to make too. I've done several in various sizes and color combinations. The background extends beyond the points, so you don't have to match them. That's what makes it so quick.

I'm doing an appliqued Sunbonnet Sue right now...using my scraps. I haven't made any of the scrappy quilts yet, but I can tell you.....after seeing all the scrappy quilts on this forum, where they combine colors I'd never have dreamed of, it seems you can't go wrong!!! It always amazes me how they seem to just "come together" and look right. Go for a design you like and just have fun. After all, they're just scraps!!!! :mrgreen:

Okay, people, here is a good little laugh. I cut out a bunch of 4 1/2 inch squares, put some together and the first two, I sewed one with the wrong side to the right side. Started over, completed one whole square, cut it and guess what? Didn't cut it in the middle. (will have to hide that one). Okay, finally did one right. It was really scary how they first looked, but now I am excited.. Mixing them up REALLY DOES WORK. Can you tell I don't do this often??? Anyway, now I can work some other colors in... THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP.
