Default Help sewing together Minke fabric

I am making a quilt for my niece who is having a baby in January. I am only using fabric that I inherited from my mom who passed away this spring. I want the baby to have something from Great Grandma, I am to the point of choosing the backing and found the perfect backing in her stash, however it is three long strips of pastel Minke fabric. I have never sewn with it before, but have seen it used as a backing. Would sewing them together with my surger be best, is there something I should know about the knap or stretch? What about quilting it?

I have not tried sewing with it either but I was told that sewing on top of a tissue paper type stablizer helps because it slips a lot .. and to use a lot of pins.

It is really hard to sew on minke. It stretches a lot. The tissue paper idea sounds good.it is also hard to quilt on because of the stretching.

I use minke on th back of my baby quilts. I have also made teddy bears out of it. A few tips:
1. Use a walking foot if sewing pieces together
2. Try not to pull on it too much because it tends to stretch
3. When laying out the quilt layers tape the minke down very well to avoid bunching.
4. Use more safety pins than usual with pin basting. This helps keep the minke in place while quilting.
5. Have patience and take you time!
I have worked successfully with minke over the past 5 years. The first time I used it, it was a nightmare! I love the feel of it so I tried again! I use a standard 1/4" seam allowance.

I'm not sure about the roller foot, I have never used one.

I've never heard of minke before, but now not so sure I want to know about it! :-/ Sounds like something soft and slippery.
