I am thinking I would like a wider throat machine to for quilting. Not sure if I should get a old Singer 301 long bed, which I think is really cool or a 6600 Janome which is really cool. Your opinion would be much appreciated.

I got the 6600 because of the throat size, but it's not the largest throat out there. I can't off the top of my head name the machines that have a wider throat - but I know I saw some.

When I started quilting 6 years ago I bought an Elna 7200, with a few accessories I didn't get much change out of a £1000, early last year I bought a Singer 527 and I adore it, it only cost me £50 and it does the most beautiful straight stitch and for FMQ it is the best, and I have 4, of the machines I have.
IMO save your money for more fabric and go for the reliable and well built Singer.
