I was going to put this in "tips" section but it wasn't listed as a choice.

There have been some threads about Shout Color Catchers, it didn't work in her quilt. :|

I'd like to follow up on this to see if dye remover will help.

It's still very pretty. I like the pink/purple color.

courtesy of the non-prewashed red backing fabric,

Well, duh! Of all the colors out there, red would be the most likely candidate for pre-washing.

I'm fairly new to quilting, have made a sampler, a couple of wall size, and a lap top. I did not wash the first three, figuring they are on the wall and could be dusted. I washed every piece that went into the lap top before I sewed it, and again after.

I almost messed up though! A friend gave me a couple of nice red colors I used for the birds in the quilt, and I almost forgot to wash them! Small sized, I put them in a bowl with vinegar and the water turned red! I'm so glad I did, it could have ruined the 80 hrs of work I put into that quilt!

That poor woman! I'm always leery of red and that's a shame b/c I love the color.

How strange that the "bleed" was not over the entire quilt, it looks like it was contained to the outer blocks.
