    Default Quilting Yardage help

    Hey guys,
I'm pretty new to quilting but I wanted to make a guestbook quilt for my sisters wedding. I know how I want it to be in my head but making it a reality is a little difficult, and I guess I just want to make sure I'm doing these calculations right because while I love having extra fabric I don't want 10 extra yards or something ridiculous like that!!! I also don't want to get halfway through realize I don't have enough and be scrambling because I can't find anything I like.

So I've attached a picture of my plan! Hopefully it kind of makes sense. (I know it's not drawn very beautifully)

I would like the quilt to be 96" X 98"
    The C's are color blocks
The pink/ W's are white blocks

All the blocks should be 12"X14"
with the exception of the middle block that is going to be 22"X40" with a 1 inch border.

My problem is that when I calculate how many yards I need for the blocks I get anywhere from
15.3 yds to 7.3 yds or some crazzzzyyy number.

I've tried reading a few tutorials about calculating yardagebut I'm super lost! I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know if I'm even doing this right.

    Thanks,
    Carol

i figured that if you could get 3 14.5 out of the width of fabric (i know it is cutting it close) you would need 2.25 yards of white and 4.5 of color plus what you want for the center
