http://www.quiltappraisers.org/findAppraiser.html

Written appraisals used for insurance purposes cost more - I've seen $35-65 per quilt, but if you had a pile of quilts, and just wanted ballpark figures before you put them up for sale, then I'm sure you could work out an hourly or lower per quilt charge.

The appraiser would (should) also have recommendations for you on reputable auction houses and dealers. eBay is also an option, but it's ...fluid.

But I wouldn't mention you wanted to sell them until after the appraisal.

While I'm not making any statements, many appraisers are also collectors. Just saying. ;) ;) ;)

Good luck. If you ever take pictures of them, please come back and share them with the board here. We LOVE to see old quilts.

Suggestion...NEVER, ever sell anything to the one who appraises it. Too much temptation there. They know a lot about what they appraise because they love that kind of stuff. And want it.

Is there a reputable auction house near you that handles old quilts now and then? Anyway, go online and do some checking on eBay and on the Amish site, some of the prices would startle you.

Welcome to our site, ask away. There are talented folks from all over the world here and will help anyone in need.

Also, here's a link to the National Quilting Association.
http://nqaquilts.org/

They do certify appraisers (I thought) but I can't find the link.
However, judges and teachers are listed by state.

You might want to contact one of the judges in your area. I'm sure they would be able to give you some contacts.

Or contact the NQA directly.

Another option is to contact your local quilt guild. I don't know where you are so I can't help you. But a simple Google search will locate one in your area. The contact person would know who is in the area, or put you in contact with someone who will.

Here's a list of the Ohio quilt guilds. I have no idea how current it is.

That's all I got. Good luck.

Remember, we want pictures of the quilts.

Here's a link to a Dayton Area guild, you can ask them for referrals to Quilt Appraisers.
