Other then a couple of spots where I didn't keep the foot against the ruler it worked pretty good. I especially liked how it allowed me to FMQ backtrack over lines already quilted. FMQ straight lines has been holding me back on some designs so I think I can go forward now.Name: image.jpg

You mentioned you watched a video of someone quilting on their Bernina using tools to help with quilting. Do you have a website of the video?

So with these thicker plexiglass pieces did you use your regular FMQ foot? I've been reading up on doing ruler work on a DSM & have seen it done using the thicker feet, which I don't have. It would be great not to have to get another foot! Your practice looks good!

I love this idea. I've been wanting to try using a ruler to FMQ but the ones they sell for that purpose are out of my price range. This is a great and inexpensive idea, thanks.

I would love a thicker ruler foot for my Bernina but so far I can't find one. There is a post on QB of gluing a plastic washer on top of the regular FMQ foot but I haven't tried that. As soon as I can find the right size plastic part I will try that since I have an extra FMQ foot.
That's why I was intrigued by the video of her just using the regular foot. I tried it and although you have to keep it firmly on the sandwich so the foot doesn't slip under the ruler, I was able to do a good job with it.

Looks like you've got it under control and I'm glad to know about using the ruler for FMQ.

You can purchase 1/4 inch plexiglass (or Lexan, or acrylic) at Home Depot -You go to the section where you purchase mouldings. Don't know why that is where our HD keeps them. There will be a rack with various sizes: both thickness and length/width. I purchase this stuff to make my own templates for rotary cutting.
