I jusr bought a Janome DC1050 for traveling. I have a Bernina Activa that I use at home. Two questions.
I bought a darning foot for my Bernina as I am trying to do some of my own quilting as I live in Costa Rica now. The darning foot just sits above the fabric. Lots of space and difficult to work with as it applies absolutely no pressure. Is this the way it is supposed to be?

I purchased a 1/4" edge foot for my Janome and it is so slanted to the back that the fabric will not catch in it. I cannot really use it as the fabric is all over the place and I want to use it for piecing. My Bernina foot is not slanted. Are the Janome feet slanted or did I get a dud?

My Janome 1/4" foot is not slanted. It catches the fabric very well. I can snap the actual foot part off and snap it on my old Kenmore and use it for class.

My Janome 1/4" foot is not slanted. I use it all the time! Sounds like a dud...is it an universial foot or a foot made by Janome?

In my opinion, the darning foor is not supposed to sit on the fabric, because when doing the free motion quilting, you need to put your feed dogs down and be able to move the fabric by yourself, without any pressure from the darning foot.

I just found a new post on the Janome site that says I have to buy another shank attachment for the DC1050 in order to use that foot. I think this is new as it wasn't on their site a few days ago. I was looking for something else and this was the latest post. More $$$ of course. I want to buy fabric and thread not shanks!
Thanks for the info everyone. I will give the darning foot another go but I sure don't know how you could darn with it.

I have 2 walking feet and a darning foot. I have had them forever and they both fit and work on my Janome. I think you got a dud and should return it. My feet either screw on or snap on.

I tried my universal darning foot I bought for my Singer on my Janome today. At first it wasn't working but then I had a "duh" moment, I forgot to lower the foot. lol The feed dogs were down but not the foot. Once I did that, it worked fine. I though I would have to buy one made for just for a Janome. Now I can practice FMQ...I think.

I hope you get your darning and the 1/4" foot working.

You may have bent the foot. The foot that came with my Janome either was bent or it got bent when I tried to pop the bobbin hatch while it was in the DOWNposition.

If you will supply funds I will fly to wherever you are in Costa Rica - Cerro al Muerte or Dominical...and deliver you a FREE good foot!

The darning foot is supposed to sit above your fabric and just stitch in place basically while you move the fabric around to free motion quilt, darn or embroider. It shouldn't be more than a coin's heighth or a smidge more off the fabric when the foot is down.
