I was fortunate enough this past weekend to take a longarm quilting class/retreat here in Texas with a girl from Pennsylvania. We instantly bonded like 2 old friends! How many others have made friends through quilting?

That has been the best part of quilting. When I began quilting my BFF was working on a PhD. Did not get to see much of her for about 4 years. Quilting was my social life and I have made good friends through it.

I have made long distance friends on the board. Quilters I will never meet but we e-mail each other all the time.

Same here, only I have made an *in person* friend due to QB. We met on the board and found out we lived 10 minutes away from each other. We bonded instantly, like we had known each other forever and are having a sew day together once a week. It has done wonders for my sewing motivation and total mental outlook, as I don't/can't get out often due to DH's health. Thank you Jeanne!! I hope I have helped you as much as you have helped me.

Yes, I've met some friends thru quilting. It's been a lifesaver for me. I moved from big city to small clickish town....and having this board has been a godsend.

Also -- I connected with a distant cousin on this board!!!!

None of my friends quilt and when I talk about quilting I can see their eyes glaze over (although they appreciate quilted gifts.) I recently met (or re-met if that's a word) 2 girls I went to high school with (many, many years ago LOL). Both quilt and both live about 10 miles from me. We go on RoadTrips once a month and have become good friends. We wouldn't have become friends without quilting as a common bond.

I've also made some great friends on here that I will prob never meet in person but feel I know and care for them as much as "local" friends.

Same here. Have made some really neat friends on here. I think my family is jealous. LOL. No really, they were so shocked that I would go online and talk to strangers, I had always cautioned them, don't tell anyone anything online. Now I bare my soul. I think it is the quilting thing that binds us, or maybe are all quilters trustworthy? LOL Got to get off this computer and take DGS tubing down the creek. Have a good day

My quilting friends are all on this board but I can find one available anytime of day or night. I live in a rural area and don't know anyone that quilts, There are some groups but in my experience they are fussy and not the most open to newcomers in their midst. The area we live in is very cliquish also even the one church we belonged too never looked at me as a real member because I was a city kid imported to the country. Mind you the City is 8 miles away but it wasn't the church I went to as a child. They have a group of quilters and I have seen their quilts, I don't think I want to join them. They never welcomed me when I tried to become a member of a different ladies group years ago. I love everyone here!!

I have made a couple of friends through quilting. I met one on another message board and she lives about 25 minutes from me, we try to get together as often as we can and talk on the phone about once a week. I met another lady a couple of months ago, she is the representative for Nolting here, and we have forged a friendship. I have met many wonderful people (quilters) on-line who I will never meet but they are so much fun to visit with.

I met a wonderful friend on the board recently. This is a world wide board and I found a quilting buddy (true friend) that lives only four blocks from me. We decided to meet at a local Starbucks and we have been close ever since. She and I are like two peas in a pod. She is funny and fun and smart and kookie! I am so grateful for her friendship.
