Default How to cut a square into 8 triangles?

I haven't sewed for two to three years and am more rusty than I thought. I decided to start on something easy - a wall hanging with a 8 point star. The first step says to cut the square into 8 triangles. I don't know how to do that. I can't figure it out. Any help?

I'd cut my square in half both ways (like a + sign) them cut each mini-square in half diagonally (/) from corner to corner and you will have 8 triangles.

http://www.craftsy.com/blog/2014/01/...are-triangles/

The link is for making 8 HST at a time, but it will work for triangles too. Unless of course you need a different shaped triangle.

I always think of criss cross applesauce which is what Peckish mentioned.

Or cut from corner to corner, and then cut each triangle in half = 8 pieces.
