Use those caramel colored gummy erasors. I have seen them at quilt shops. Probably available at office supply stores too. The soft, gummy texture graps the fibers, etc out of the cuts in the mats. For general cleaning the mat off, i use the plastic scrubby with the knob handle.
OLFA recommends soaking them in the tub too. Directions on the Olfa website. Not sure about other brands tho.....i love Olfa . What Jan said!

Try shipping tape. Wrap a length of tape, sticky side out, around your hand and roll it across the mat.
I too use a Mr Clean white eraser.

I just used one of those kitchen scrubbies made from crocheted nylon net (you can buy them here at Christmas Fairs, so I stock up for the year and for prezzies): it worked great!

Quickest way to clean is scrunch up a batting off cut, and rub over in a firm circular motion.
This is what I use too. I have a scrap of rough canvas that I usually use to wipe my mat down for quickie cleanups, but if I've been cutting a lot of batting and/or it's really stuck and/or my mat is just starting to show slices, I take it outside and give it a "scrubbing" with the nylon pad and then I hose it off and leave it flat on the wet grass (out of the sun) to slowly dry out (it's too big or I'd wash/soak it in the tub). Mine is an Alvin brand mat, not Olfa, but I think periodically wetting them down is good for all self-healing rotary cutting mats. I try to do mine once a year.Originally Posted by Up North
