Seriously, this is a huge issue here at my house. Hubby refuses to actually use a quilt I make for him, says "I don't want anything to happen to it." Now don't get me wrong here, I really appreciate the sentiment in his words but did not spend weeks and even months on a quilt designed just for him for it to be stashed in the closet. Never to be used or hardly even seen. He brings them out maybe twice a year to fluff them in the dryer(air cycle of course) or just lays them on beds to air them out then it's right back to the closet to be hidden. He has 2 of them now and I am working on a Harry Potter one for him now but, it's really hard to get into the swing of making it if it's just gonna end up in the closet with the others. So, just how do you guys get them to use it??

First quilt I ever made, I kinda see why he hides this one LoL!

It's not a problem here. I make quilts. I toss them in the living room. They migrate all over the house.

Yeah, it's like that with my kids. They are always running off with one I made. I just can't get him to use any of them. Grrr!!

That is why I sometimes like to think of myself as a blanket maker. I want my quilts used. Here we have 2 small dogs - so you bet they get used! :)

Don't make him anymore, apparently he is not gonna use them. LOL!!!
My Dh uses the one I made for him infact the other day I told him that it needed to be washed. As soon as he got home from work he asked if I had washed it so he could sit and watch tv under it.
I only like to make quilts for those who will use them.

I don't have that problem either. DH uses his and I actually find myself cringing when he just leaves it piled on the couch, or lets the kids sit all over it. I don't say anything though, it's his quilt to do with as he pleases. It was made to be used, I just use things a little more lightly than he does. :)

I'd say you should pull his quilts out of the closet and put them on the couch. Tell him if they get ruined you'll make him a new one. Plenty more where they came from! :)

LoL! I tell him that before I begin each one and he swears he will use it. But then he decides it is "..just to special" to use. I think HP will be the last if he doesn't use it. I started it last spring and am only about halfway done. It's all 5 1/2" pp blocks. Just burns my butt that he won't use 'em. Thanks for letting me vent a bit, you guys are so awesome!!

I have that exact issue with my family , everything I give them ends up be saved, even potholders. This year I made them give me a potholder ( I had made) with some ... food, gravy, anything to show they had used them. It was a condition for them getting the quilts I had made them( they did not know what they were getting) . I told them all if they did not use them, they could donate them , but if they kept them ... I would come to their house and spill something on it myself if I found them in a closest! They finally got the message.

It's sweet that he "treasures" them so well. But I can understand your frustration, too.

I'm grateful I learned to quilt with Mary Ellen Hopkins who wrote "It's Okay if You Sit on My Quilt (Because I Can Make Another)" because her philosophy has colored my perception of the life and strength in my work and the quilts.

Perhaps you yourself might take one out and drape it across the back of the sofa "for winter use" or display. See if he actually fights you over that.

Otherwise, I guess you could ask him if he is saving them for his *next* wife!
