When do you call it quits?

I have been quilting alot for me, about 35 hours a week. Yesterday I could do no wrong, every seam matched. At 1:30 am everything was still going great.

Today not so good. It was sew and rip, sew and rip. I cut a whole strip at the wrong width. I had one seam I re-did NINE times. I cannot just throw it out and start over because it is a kit and I dont have extra. In the end, it still never came out. It is without a doubt the worst seam I have sown in years.

I just had to get up and walk away or I would have throw the whole project in a tub and stuck it in the closet. Maybe in a few days I can come back to this.

Some days are like that. When I get nuts when I'm sewing I turn to the board to take my mind off work and look for Ideas. And try to give encouragement. You'll go back to it later and it will work out ok. Trust me, been there done that!

it sounds like you need to take a break and walk away from that project for awhile, good luck

Oh wow!! Do I know what you are talking about!!! :) Some days things are just zipping along like wild and then there are days when I swear that I will never sew again and that I dont want to have anythng to do with fabric or quilting!

Best thing is to walk away for awhile and go back again another day.

I understand your pain! I felt the same way last night - I wanted to start learning paper piecing, but no matter what I did, everything was wrong. I lost my nifty small scissors I use to rip seams, I couldn't get the pattern to print out the right size, then not at all, and then I sewed the fabric on wrong!

In the end, I said to myself "I know when I'm beat!" And I retired for the night.

Take a break, but don't give up!

When nothing is going right I turn off the sewing machine and walk away. It's best for me.

It sounds like you overdid yesterday if you were still working on your quilt at 1:30am. Some days are like that!! Take a much needed break and everything will be fine the next time you work on it! Hang in there!
