I just finished my DQ top for the Doll Quilt Swap and I used embroidery in my top. I am not very good at doing any of the quilting down part.(bad grammer I know! LOL) but I wondered what everyone else does on their embroidery pieces. I only know how to do SITD and can do a few small swirls.

So how would you quilt around the embroidery? I choose to not quilt around it on this quilt but would like any advice I can get for next time I use embroidery.

Well I did some flowers and I did think of quilting an oval around the embroidered flowers. But I just wondered what others do.

I just shadow quilt around the embroidry a couple of times.
It doesn't have to be exact, I just do the best I can.

Depending on the design, I have machine stitched all around the edges, and not with FMQ, so this can only be done easily on a small quilt. I would not attempt to do that on a large one because of all the twists and turns required. I have also done stippling on machine embroidered blocks, all around and up close to the design. If designs are really dense, it's not likely that you can do any sort of tacking the 3 layers together in the area of the design.

thanks everyone. I was curious what you all do on this. I have never done any embroidery in a quilt before. I used to do purses and have done some crazy quilt stitches. So I haven't run into this before. My projects are usually small so no need for quilting.
