I have finished stitch in the ditch quilting a lap-size quilt made from Yellow Brick Road pattern. Do I tie knots on the back and clip threads, or is there a nicer way to finish?

I pull the bobbin thread to the top, tie it off with the upper thread in a square knot, and bury it in the quilt sandwich.

How do you bury the knot after tying a square knot?

I'd pull them to the back and tie off and bury

Or use the lock stitch on your machine and then just have the ends to bury.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm just not getting it about how to bury the knots!

take one of those "easy thread" needles... insert it into the top and wadding right at the base of the knot. twist the tied ends together and snap into the eye of the needle. Draw the threads through and out of the surface of the quilt and snip the excess. I pull the threads a little to get a pucker then when I snip the ends disappear back intot he sandwich.

Way easier than trying to thread the needle. you can also do it with fairly short threads if you have to.

Try using a "cheater needle" They're the ones that you can snap the thread into the eye instead of having to thread it through. Once you've tied the threads - either a square knot or a quilter's knot, thread the ends into a needle. Pull it up slightly so you can see exactly where one of the threads goes through your fabric. Put your needle through that hole and slide along under neath the top for an inch or so and then let it come back up. Pull the thread through. When you get to the knot, it will "pop" as you pull it into the hole. Sometimes you might have to manipulate the fabric a bit if the knot is big. Once the knot is buried, you can cut off the thread where it came back out of the quilt top.
