Hello, everyone, this is my first post to the board. I usually just lurk in the background. I am going to make a rag quilt for my friend. I am a very novice quilter. The Pattern is for a quilt that is 5 Rows Wide and 7 Rows long. I want to make it larger. With that said is there a rule-of-thumb for adding rows to keep the quilt proportional? I would like to keep it more of a rectangle. So, do I add one row in width and one row in length or one in width and two in length. Thanks for any help and ideas.

Depending on how large you want it - add one row and one column or two rows & two columns.

Another thing to consider is the overall pattern - if it is random or something like diagonal stripes, then having even numbers isn't an issue. If it is a pattern that creates a mirror image of itself or repeats, you may need an odd number.

The other thing you could do is use larger blocks and stay with the 5x7 layout.

Cheers, K
