I have a commercial grade Singer machine that I use for all of my regular sewing including constructing my quilt tops.
I have a Juki TL-98Q that my DH gave me for our 25th wedding anniversary with my Gracie setup. I can't imagine wanting or needing any other machine short of a long arm.

I have seen many posts showing people buying many machines. Why? I understand hording fabric, magazines and even patterns but machines? I understand two so I don't have to move one back and forth off the quilting frame.

Let's see.....most of my piecing is done on a 15 year old Bernina 1090. Then I have a Singer Featherweight, cause it's so cute! Also kept the first machine I ever bought, a JC Penney machine. Collected 3 or 4 older Singers in the wooden cases since I like antiques. And found a Singer treadle for about $20! And then I have a Prodigy longarm and an A-1 longarm. Oh, better not forget the 7 or 8 antique toy machines - Singer, Casiege, Sew EZ, etc.

I just like sewing machines - doesn't mean I use them all. Think about it - alot of people collect stamps, doesn't mean they use them!! LOL

Well, darn, I just thought about a couple more machines - got an older machine in a cabinet that belonged to my mom's neighbor, and DH's mom's older cabinet machine. Maybe I better quit buying machines!!! ;-)

Some people collect coins, stamps, porcelain dolls, or Hummel figurines.

I happen to have a collection of sewing machines.
Some I have for the functionality, others I have because I think they are beautiful machines and worthy of taking care of for future generations. :)

How about to each her own? Does anyone NEED more than three outfits for any season (one in the wash, one worn, one in the closet)? I work hard, pay my taxes, give charity, provide for my family, and spend the surplus as I see fit. I'm sure having extra machines doesn't hurt you or anyone else.

I have 1 machine, given to me by my mother in law, which is what got me started sewing.

She told me tonight we are going to be looking for a second machine for me, something that is better than what I have (second hand, she (and I) love thrift store shopping)

She said she would like to get me one that will be with a sewing machine cabinet, as the one I have is a portable, she wants me to have something more stable.

So... we will be watching the thrift stores hehe (not sure how much she is willing to spend)

she got her pfaff second hand, for $8, then spent I think about $100 getting it serviced. Not sure what pfaff it is, just know it is a pfaff, and she loves it.

I wish I had a few more machines hehe. So far I am becoming a fabriholic... god help me if I had the money to buy machines and notions LOL (I would turn into a quilt store if I could buy what I wanted/desired)

I have 20. I simply love these old machines, and if they weren't so expensive, I'm pretty sure I'd collect some of the newer ones as well.
~shrug~ Maia made a good point with the clothing...or any collection...each of my machines is different. Each has it's own style and "personality".

Seven, and trying to find number eight! Three get used regularly, two are being saved for my future grandchildren to use, one is a serger, and the other is.... well..... I just can't get rid of it! Number eight will be a treadle in case the power goes out! That's my story and I am sticking to it!

8 FW's, 1 Janome, 1 Juki, 1 Kenmore, 1 White Serger, 1 Kobe Blindstitch, 1 Singer Industrial, 1 Rimoldi Serger, 2 301's, 1 99K 1 Eaton's...I love them...I think I need help...
