I'm very into paper piecing right now! I discovered it in early June while looking for a helicopter pattern. I wasn't able to find what I was looking for, but I found an airplane paper piecing pattern. I called my mom and asked her to explain paper piecing over the phone and that night I started, within 3 days everything, but the quilting was done. I have decided to hand-quilt it, but since it has been so hot I put it away until the fall. I'm making it for our future son (we are planning to adopt as soon as our homestudy is complete and we find a mother looking to make an adoption plan), just in case the baby is a girl I'm also going to make a butterfly quilt (we will be thrilled with a boy or a girl, but since we have two girls, it would be nice to have a little boy). I had so much fun making the airplanes that I started looking for other paper piecing patterns. The next one I started was "Garden Patch", which is so much fun!!!! I can't wait to finish it!!!! Lack of fabric has been my problem. The sample quilt they show looks amazing, so I'm trying to make it similar....not exact or even close, but similar. Like each plant uses different greens, and different browns....so coming up with that many greens and that many browns has been hard. Brown is my struggle right now. Since I need so little I don't want to go and buy, so I'm hoping to find some in my mom's stash. Just need to find the time to go and dig through it all! In the meantime I'm working on another Table Topper that I'm giving as an anniversary gift to my hubby's aunt this upcoming Saturday.

Hope everyone is having a great night!
Hugs!

Kelly-I love to paper piece, too, but I think we are in the minority. I love the precision of it and it goes so quickly.

Post a picture of your airplane quilt top. I would love to see it.

Good luck with the adoption. Keep us posted on it too-I think after quilts, babies and kids are the biggest hit on the board!

I was crushed last night when my mom told me that paper piecing is "cheating" and not real quilting :( I thought it was just another method. Maybe not as impressive as template piecing, but I'm having a great time with it!

Here is where I posted my pictures to the group.....

Marcia....I love the precision too!!! I would never be able to make sure perfect points with template piecing....I'm just not that good!

Hugs!!!

Here is the last one I did.....

I still need to make it into a hexagon and quilt it!

I have bought the rulers, paper and even a Carol Doak book/CD but have not found the courage to start. I too like the idea of percisionnnnn ! Some day either my prince will come or I might try to teach myself to paper peice. Which do you think will happen first ? ( oh yeah, I'm 57 soon to be 58  ,llooolllll.)

You are right. Mom's been listening to the Quilt Police.
