I volunteered to make the Coach's gift for my sons Tball team.

Attached is my "sketch" of the design, a wall hanging. The white squares will be the kids hand-prints name and #. The red squares will be the same as the uniforms (Dbacks) and the gray squares will be a baseball print. The larger center square is yet to be designed but will be some kind of thank you to the coaches (husband and wife) and maybe the team logo.

My question for you all is how would you quilt it with out going over the kids hands. the only thing I am thinking is stitch in the ditch around the white squares and a "X" design on the 4 patch?

any other ideas????.... I don't have a long arm and there is no budget to send it out so I need something simple.

    Cute idea!!

I think the SID around the white squares would be just fine. Or if you want more, you could quilt around each hand.

That's a cute idea. You could quilt it many ways, just stay off of the hands.

I love the idea of SID with an added outline quilting around the hands---it will really make them "pop"! This is going to be a cherished gift.

could you quilt around the hands to look like mitts and in the red/gray area quilt circles/baseballs?

That is going to be a real treasure for the Coach. I agree with the ideas listed above...SID and if you could do some echo type quilting around the hands...if not I think the SID would work just fine for your lovely quilt. You could do the X's or use different diagonal lines in the various patches of the 4 patch. You can make it as simple or complicated as you desire. This quilt is only a win/win for everyone no matter what you decided to do and I just love your design.
