Something you may want to keep in mind when deciding on the block size is the finished size of the small squares in the center of the square-in-square block. With a 6" finished block (a 42x54 quilt) those little squares will be about 1.125". Making 10" blocks will give you a finished quilt roughly 70x90, still manageable for both you and the little guy, but increases the center squares to 1.75".

The yardage as needed for the pattern as drawn using 10" blocks would be roughly 2.875 yards of the black and 4.25 yards of the orange (plus backing and binding, of course). I know you already went shopping, sorry.

I like your pattern. Reminds me of a Brontosaurus or the Loch Ness Monster.

Have a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Actually, its not my birthday until the 14th. They took me out shopping early.................it was a bad day. Only two good things happened: the guy at the Hot Topic store telling me I'd look hot in the reversable sleeveless hoodie I was checking out (and ended up getting) and the cool chick (Sara I think her name was) who did my Joan Jett-like haircut (she really made me feel good about it :)) The rest was crap. If I try describing the whole day I'll end up using some very vulgar language and break many board rules because I'm so angry over the whole thing. What I can tell you without swearing like a sailor that my one friend was being a selfish, pigheaded jerk throughout the entire day (that's putting it lightly) and he got himself arrested over a fight in the parking lot with his wife while I was in the mall getting my hair done. The worst part about the whole thing is...they bailed him out. I think he should of sat in jail so he could think about he ruined what was supposed to be a fun day because he was being a...jerk plus getting arrested (we would of been stranded an hour away from home if we didn't have a ride) so that maybe next time he decides to start crap like this again he'll stop himself and say "I went to jail the last time this happened and put the girls through crap they didn't need because of me". ...I gotta stop before I start swearing.

But anyways, we never hit the Hancock's so this info wouldn't have been much use, but it might be good for future reference.

I did like the person who described my pattern like a "tsunami". :)

No, I don't use EQ. I wish I had it. Until then, I have to use your standard Paint program to show you guys my ideas.

Oh Flying V ~ what a day!! I am glad to hear that it's not actually your real birthday after all that happened!! That can only be much better right???

Hope you spend the rest of the day doing something creative to get out your frustrations. Like something totally random and unplanned ~ take out your scraps and start sewing them randomly together. Iron them, cut them up again and resew. Continue this process until a)you run out of thread b) you've made a masterpiece or c)it's midnight and you ask yourself "what exactly am I doing anyway and why did I start this craziness! ~ don't forget to post the results!!!!!

Well, either way it was still terrible. It was supposed to be a day where I'd get to go birthday shopping and we were supposed to have fun. But Jason..........arrrgh! Well, it started when the little guy started crying (he's teething) and Jason gets all flustered 'cause he can't "handle" his crying. Oh, shut up! The kid is nine months old---plenty of time to get used to it. And him getting all frustrated doesn't make Adrian feel any better since babies seem to absorb negetivity and that just upsets them even more. So he was a...selfish, inconsiderate, pig-headed, whiny, childish.....jerk. I ran out of adjectives to use that wouldn't require me to swear. The only time he was happy was when he got to do what he wanted. Other than that, total pig-head. It took me a really long time to get the hair done because they were busy and once I got in the chair another stylist took notice of the picture I brought and totally wanted to do it (she sounded so excited to do it, I couldn't refuse), but she was with another client doing a dye job so I had to wait longer...from the time I went in there to the time I went out, it was two hours. Jamie didn't mind the time it was taking even if Adrian was fussy (I kept saying I was sorry and she was like "No, its okay. Don't worry about it. This is what you want!") But Jason...total jerk. He whined about how long it was taking...he suggested we go back home and have me get it done at the barber shop downtown (just because he wanted to take Adrian home because he was crying a little---got the kid some pretzels and he was fine). The first thing he said when I got into the car was "Jesus Christ! It took you two *bleep*ing hours for you to get a haircut?!"----not "Hey, your hair looks nice."

And then today....Mom's was angry with everybody all day. Mainly because of my brother! He's been a brat all day! I've been trying to help out all day...cleaned the dishes, dried the clothes, scrubed the stove...none of it matters. Zach does something and she yells at him and then yells at me! Just now he decided to go raid the fridge...after she got done yelling at him she yelled at me. "And you! Stay out of that fridge, too! And if you're not off Internet by 11 I SWEAR to GOD! ...quit your *bleep*ing bawling!" I can't help but cry.......I've been trying to help out and be good, even though I'm still mad and frustrated over yesterday, and I keep getting my ass chewed out. :(
