I colleague at work asked how much I would charge to make a T-shirt quilt. I've heard of $25 - $30 per square. Does that sound reasonable? The cost of machine quilting would be added on top of that.

It totally depends on your area. I charged $450 for a queen size quilt completed. This cost included all materials and quilting. Here is a link to it. Double sided T-Shirt quilt

Have you ever made a T shirt quilt? Do you know what you are getting into? Many people enjoy making quilts for others, me, not so much. I just tell people they can't afford me. I don't want to make a job of my hobby! I'm not sure how you charge for the "design" time. But you may have a good basis at $30.00 per square.
I agree with Nammie. If you have never made one, there are a lot of problems that you need to know about when making one of these quilts. They become quite heavy along with backing the t-shirt with fusible so they won't be stretchy as you piece them into a quilt.Originally Posted by Nammie to 7

There is a site that does t-shirt quilts for others. Try Googling it and see what they charge. Most non quilters have any idea how much a quilt cost. Most t-shirt squares are backed with a light weight fusible stabilizer to control the stretch. It can be expensive. Do a list of the supply cost so you can show him much just the materials will cost plus your labor.
When it comes to how much to charge, I can't help you. I have had many ask how much. I tell them I don't do commission work. I give them away as gifts to family and donate any others. I have a couple old gowns and some t-shirts I'm stashing to make one maybe one day. Good luck!
