Default Embroidery CD for Brothers PES?

A friend gave me her CD that she bought for the Brothers SE 400 embroidery machine which I ended up buying from her. The CD came with no instructions. How does one see what the designs are? I know I can get some visualization after I load them into my machine but that would take forever! Anyone know how to use it?

Is this a CD that goes into your computer and then you use a program to transfer to card to go in machine? Does this make sense?

You cannot see the pattern on the computer because it is not saved in any format that your computer understands; it is not a picture, it is a big digitized bunch of data that your sewing machine reads. Some CDs also come with a regular picture of the design so you can see it. I have a CD from Anita Goodesign and it has several folders on the CD, one with directions, one with pictures labeling each image and one with all the actual designs. If the CD doesn't have that, maybe you could look it up online and find pictures. Is it a CD from Brother or from somewhere else? I know all the Brother pictures are online. Hope this helps.

There are programs for installing so that you can see images of the designs. You might want to look into sewIcons at SandsComputing, http://embrilliance.com/products/embril ... humbnailer http://www.wingsxp.com/index.php/my_editor/ , Wilcom, Coats&Clark, freebies like Tajima Pulse Ambassador... There is one that only shows .pes that is free, also http://redmugs.com/html/viewer/download/index.php is a free download that shows .pes images. You need to install one in your computer, look at your designs on the CD, or move them to the folder where you save designs and you will be able to see the images there. Unless, of course, you have PE Design Basic or other embroidery software. In which case, the images will show when you open 'that' program. I hope this gets you started.

I LOVE my SewIconz from Sands Computing!! One of the best programs for viewing the designs. I use it all the time. I actually have all the Sew What Pro programs from Sands Computing. Not much of a learning curve at all!!

Thanks everyone for the help. Sew1 you are almost correct. These designs can be downloaded straight to my machine. My machine will only take 12 of these types at a time, besides the ones that came with the machine. I believe the Cd is to be used like you are shopping for a particular item. Only problem is I can't see what the design looks like. I think I may check out the SewIconz. There is another one that has been recommended called Stitch Era Universal. I'm just worried about filling up my PC with a bunch of stuff!

I have a Brother Duetta Machine. You should have a program for your computer called PE Designs, that you would down load into and then copy to cards for your sewing machine. And/or some times the program from Ann the Gran works also.....but I am pretty sure it needs to go into your computer first. With my machine I can use a USB flashdrive to transfer from my computer to my machine......so much better......

There should be a chart on the cd that you can download. varies but generally has pics & the thread color changes. I print those out. Just downladed freebies from site probaby won't buy any of theirs --to time consuming but you have to download each color chart separtely,,bummer!!
