It's fast and easy. All your bookmarks are saved at Google and you can use them from any computer. It's better then clogging up your computer space.

I you don't use IGoogle go here:

You ought to be backing up files on your hard drive. You can put them on an inexpensive and very portable flash drive. Your favorites can go on the flash drive, too.

Um, nice tip, but shouldn't it be in General Chat?

I don't care where you placed your thread. I'm just thankful that you shared it. Thanks, Boo! Knowing this might save some of us from losing some quilting-related websites that we love if we're strapped for cash and don't have a spare $15 from our "fabric budget" to buy a flash drive. Not all of us are as computer savvy as others, so I appreciate suggestions from both Boo and Lisanne.

I'm about as forum correct as I am politically correct. If the post needs to be moved, I can do that.

Flash drives crash just like computers. Be very careful when disconnecting, if not shut down properly all data can be erased when it disconnects. I learned that the hard way.

Now this is news to me. How would I shut down a flash drive? I just pull it out while the computer is still on. Are you saying I should wait until the computer is off?

Depending on the drive and your computer, it may require that you physically "close" or "eject" the thumb drive before pulling it out of the USB port. I know that with computers where I used to work, you had to place your cursor over the thumb drive icon and 'eject' it. You couldn't just pull it out, otherwise some files could be corrupted or lost.

On my iMac, however, I can just close the file and pull the thumb drive out without losing files. However, again, I just have to make sure I close the file I'm working on COMPLETELY before yanking the thumb drive out.

I believe that is what Boo was referring to, Lisanne.

A huge thank you!!!

I've got scads of "favorites" - blogs, patterns, stores, the list is long!

As many of our favorites are quilting links, I think this is a great place for this to be posted.

And while we should  back up our hard drive, that isn't going to help with a list of links, or bookmarks. Backing up your hard drive refers to the files you've actually saved.

Thanks again.

I have Vista and down in the lower right there is an icon that pops up when ever a flash drive is plugged in. When I get ready to take it out, I click on the icon and it closes the flash drive/files and tells me when it's safe to disconnect. Be careful and don't just pull the plug for digital cameras, Ipods, any hardware you plug into the computer.
