Can you post a pic of the block? Sometimes you can avoid those V seams.
Just depends on the block you're making.

I always try to come up with a different assembly path that allows me to make strips or rows, and then put the strips or rows together.

I could have avoided the Y seams altogether in the quilts that I'm making but unfortunately I followed the pattern and didn't realize until later that if I hadn't I could have cut triangles instead of squares but I didn't have enough fabric to redo them.

If you can find an episode of Simply Quilts where they show you how to do Tumbling Blocks, they show you how to do it without the Y seams. Good luck. I've used this technique and I love it and it's so easy.
