I have a baby quilt to finish and wouldn't you know that the batting I have is about 2 inches too narrow to back the top as is. I will have to splice the batting, which I have never done before, and want to know how you go about doing this. Don't know if I should butt the edges together or overlap. Thanks, Ann in Tn

Butt the edges together and do a zigzag stitch. Turns out great!

Overlap the edges of two pieces of batting by a few inches, cut a gentle curvy line top to bottom, remove the little parts, butt the wavy edges together and then zigzag stitch it. It will give you a more invisible join than a straight butt will.

I agree with ghostrider --- this works well but I usually do a hand whip stitch. There is also a product out that works well. Called "Heat Press Batting Together"... It does just what it says and works very well. No visible seam either.

This method also allows for easier quilting without a seam to bump over - the joint becomes totally impossible to feel after the quilt is competed :-)

I did it three times on the last little quilt I made. You can't tell.
