How to splice quilt batting?

I have a baby quilt to finish and wouldn't you know that the batting I have is about 2 inches too narrow to back the top as is. I will have to splice the batting, which I have never done before, and want to know how you go about doing this. Don't know if I should butt the edges together or overlap. Thanks, Ann in Tn

Overlap the edges of two pieces of batting by a few inches, cut a gentle curvy line top to bottom, remove the little parts, butt the wavy edges together and then zigzag stitch it. It will give you a more invisible join than a straight butt will.

I agree with ghostrider --- this works well but I usually do a hand whip stitch. There is also a product out that works well. Called "Heat Press Batting Together"... It does just what it says and works very well. No visible seam either.
