Default How to use big hoop???

So i bought one of the very large quilting oval hoops, its probably about three feet across, because i wanted to do some hand quilting on my king size quilt. The problem is that when i tried to use it, i was sitting on the couch, i couldn't find any good way to hold it. I always ended up having my knees in the middle of the hoop and the it was just pointless....i ended up just quilting it without a hoop just propping it up between my knees because the majority of the quilt was already machine quilted i was just doing details. So before i give up on the big hoop does anyone have any suggestions or instructions on how to use it well?

I think it is too large for what you wan t to do with it. I found the largest I can use comfortably is about 14"

I usually lay one side of the hoop on a table (coffee, or otherwise); that helps hold it and you can quilt fairly easily this way. Rest the other side in your lap and turn as needed.

I usually put a chair in front of me and put the top of the hoop on the chair and the bottom on my knees...

I would need to rig something to hold up an end so that i can get my hand underneath it. I'm looking for a lap hoop that can travel w/ me.

I usually see big hoops like this used with a stand.

I'd make a stand for it. My large 24 inch hoop is a floor hoop and I could never hold it to quilt. I find that I use the lap hoop on the outside of large quilts and use the floor hoop on the center areas that are hard to get to.
