Default How would you set these antique candle wick blocks?

My neighbor gave me these blocks several years ago after her mother (age 93) passed away. I would like to put them together into a top and present them back to my neighbor who does not sew. There are 12 blocks each approx. 11x17 with plenty of room to trim down to ensure consistent sized blocks. Each one is different and her work is quite nice! These were pre-printed as I can still see the printed design in some areas. They were sewn on nice weight muslin. Obviously there are not enough to make something to fit on a bed. I would like to either make a wall hanging or to drape on a chair, etc. she loves decorating her home for different holidays, etc. any suggestions appreciated.

Ooooh, they are super pretty. I think they would look really nice set on point with solid blocks of a pretty pastel color separating them. Have fun creating your masterpiece.

I should have also asked....should I cut them square or leave as rectangle? I thought it was interesting that they were 11x17 rather than square....

those are beautiful... i'd sash them in your friend's favorite color, or mom's fav if known.

Those look very nice. What is your friends décor like? I was thinking maybe set with various shades of neutrals. I am thinking something very soft.

I did a wallhanging to sell at our church bazaar with candlewicked squares. Probably 12" square. I used an old fashioned pink/blue calico for the sashing and trimmed it with wide cotton lace. I dropped it off at 9:00 and it sold at 9:15, so someone liked it. I did not use an on point setting as some of the squares were directional and I had no matching muslin for the setting triangles.

How 'bout sashing them with a neutral and sewing them two side-by-side to make a table runner which could also be a wallhanging.

In any case, they are lovely and you are a sweetie to make them into something to thrill your neighbour's heart.

Not knowing how old these block are, I would do a tug test. Saw a post on Bonnie Hunter and she was getting ready to work on some vintage fabric. She had sewn a few together and they tore right in her hands. She took a couple other pieces and tugged. The fabric had broken down and became unstable. She stopped using them all and just put them back. This was this week. May want to do a tug test just in case. The fabric was almost 100 years old she stated. Worth a shot. Yours may not be that old but I would do it anyway. Hope it passes the tug test.
