I, too, think I would have been going crazy. I had something like that happen -- only it wasn't a tool. It was one of my mother's rings! I had lost some weight and it slipped off my finger. I looked for it for weeks -- finally picked up my knitting bag to do some knitting one night and guess what I found in the bag! Thank goodness!
