That's one reason why I haven't actually done any Twisters - I've seen it demonstrated and didn't like the idea of the waste. For a very similar technique, I prefer 'X-Blocks'. In all of the X-Blocks patterns, the leftovers are used either in the border or in a second quilt or runner. And the technique is fairly easy, although the quilts look complicated. Every time someone sees one of the quilts on display in my shop, they say "I couldn't do that". Then I show them how simple it is and they change their mind!
