I was wondering how many of you have made memory quilts from clothing? I'm making a bunch for my family from my grandfather's clothes who just passed away and was looking for some tips or ideas. Thanks!!!

well i can tell you i have not made one yet i have been saving the clothes from when my kids were little and keep thinking i will make one nxt but that has not happened yet
i am making one out of there old school pictures that i put on fabric that is a step in the right direction
so when you get yours done please show it on here i would like to see it

when I was a kid most of the quilts my mother and grandmother made were from clothing scraps left over from someone's outfit or things that there was nobody to hand them down to but still had good fabric. They used any pattern that suited them, any pattern that looks good scrappy will work.

I have made a t-shirt quilt out of sports t-shirts and it was fun. I have also made a memory quilt with pictures.
I think making one out of clothing would be great also.

I'm attaching a couple of easy memory quilts I've made.
The first one was using outgrown clothing of my little granddaughter.
I simply appliqued the article of clothing onto a backing.
The 2nd one was a T-Shirt quilt made from special shirts my son wore. These
shirt fronts I cut into uniform sizes, and bonded the front to the back of the t-shirt, for stability, then just pieced them together as you would a quilt.

My sister has one that she started from her daughters clothes--its really pretty--a grandmothers flower garden no less!

Mine was a little different. I transferred photos to fabric and made them the center hexagons and then added another ring of fabric around it. Appliqued it to muslin and gave it to my mom for Mother's Day years ago. Last summer I got it out of the closet where it had been ever since and washed it and put it on the bed.

I made one years ago using a Grandmother's Garden pattern. I'm very sad to say that it got misplaced during one of our many moves and I haven't since it in years :( I had worked for 3 years collecting a piece of clothing from every single family member to create it. We had hoped that one day I would locate it....but all the boxes have been gone through over the years and it is no where to be found.

One day I'm hoping to start another one, but I will probably use another pattern.

My MIL made one out of all her old dresses and she just made large squares and sewed them together.
