Any quilt appraisers in southern Illinois?
We own/ operate a small quilting and embroidery shop in southern Illinois. Today we had a gentleman stop by our shop and asked us if we did appraisals. He had a quilt of his mothers that was given to her by her mother that he was trying to get an idea of it's worh. He estimated it's age to be around 150 to 175 years old. It appeared to be made of a sort of velvet type of material, and burlap. It was hand sewn and quilted, with stitches he called "turkey track" style stitiching. It was in good condition considering it's age, with some of the material faded, and some of the binded edges a little worn. We looked online for quilt appraisers in southern illinois, but didn't find any close to our area.
He was in a hurry to get to an appointment so we were unable to get a picture of it at this time, but he said after he returned from a trip out of state in June, he would get back with us so hopefully we will be able to get, and post a pic of it then. We told him we would try to find an appraiser around in our area in the mean time so we thought we'd ask here. He really wants to find the value of it, so he can tell his daughter when he passes it on to her to keep it in the family, and be apperciated. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've used Hallleye Bone as my appraiser. She lives in St. Louis. She travels for appraisals and also does lectures on quilt care. Her email is [email protected] She came to Effingham last year for the quilt show and did appraisals there. She's very reasonable. She also is known for repairing antique quilts.

A searchable list of certified quilt appraisers is on the Professional Association of Appraisers website.
