Thanks for bringing back school day memories.
I went to Catholic school and our reader characters were Ann & David and Zip the dog. I think the cat was Mew, maybe.

Just perfect. Where did you find your fabric? And I love the raindrops

I disagree about "correctness". I think it is a great advantage to kids to see a variety of people in books that have pictures. I know that studies support me on this.

Of course, when I was a 1st grader, a very long time ago, I looked something like "Sally" but I hated those books, probably because I was way past them when they were handed out. I also felt the dialog was really silly. I greatly prefer the current system of placing kids by skill level. I wished I'd dared act like my best friend's brother, who finished reading Fun with Dick and Jane while they were being passed out and loudly asked for a more interesting book.

The method of repeated phrases is good, but still use them---no way.

The situations are not what the children of today can identify with. All complete families, mom is home, and do you see anyone of color?

I like your wall hanging, it brings back fond memories, but I like Dick and Jane in history and glad they are not still hanging on for my grandchildren.

I love it! I wish they were still using simple names. As a mother with two children (now teens) with dyslexia it is very hard for them to read as it is without complicated names.
