TX Cutie....Oh I totally agree, I have a sew easy dress cut out that is in the UFO pile cause its just not making sense so no you aren't alone. Sometimes when this happens I just have to make up my own instructions or just put it away for awhile and come back later on a day when I have more patiences.

This video will show you how to adapt any pattern to your measurements. I saw this episode on her tv series and it facinated me. I definitely will get the video now that I know where I can.

I'm sure it will help anyone struggling with patterns.
Thank you for that link. I ordered the book and the dvd.

there was a time when i had to sew every vogue designer pattern so i could say i did. now, who cares? i had a closet full of clothes too formal too wear and not enough jeans. all my friends were impressed and i had nothing to wear. i'm a slow learner, right? i still make all my clothes and some for every member of my family, including men's shirts and dd's professional fitted suits. and this is what i learned:

SOMETIMES IT'S NOT YOU. SOMETIMES IT REALLY IS THEM.

I CONCUR with the Nancy's Notions method of pattern alterations..........it is so very simple, and more importantly, IT WORKS and it is EASY TO DO......I would recommend purchase of the DVD and the book if you do a lot of garment sewing.........removal fo frustration and ending with a garment that FITS perfectly is worth the cost (under $30) for the set.

let me first admit that i haven't read every page of this topic. if i repeat something already said, i apologize.

the problem is NOT us. the problem is the patterns as they are now made. easy my foot. :hunf:

the patterns i used "back in the day" didn't come in 57 sizes with a bazillion different cutting lines to choose from. the seam allowances were clearly marked on the pattern. the instructions were better written and useful to virtually every skill level.

and they didn't require a second mortgage. :hunf: :hunf:
