I have read somewhere in one of the other posts that it is not necessary to lock you stiches when joing two blocks as it wil get reinforced when joined with other rows. Is this true? I have been locking both beginning and end

it took me a while before I had guts enough to stop backstitching! if you're usuing small stitches most of the time it is not needed.

You don't need to backstitch if another seam will cross over it. One instructor, however, suggested that on the blocks that are on the outside edges, it is good to backstitch if the top will set awhile and be handled prior to sandwiching and quilting...keeps the outside seams secure.

I just use a tighter stich when sewing pieces together. It has always been sufficient for me.

I have never backstitched, I do use a smaller stitch and so far have never had a problem.

Love your bright-blue Featherweight, featherweight.

I back stitch. I just feel better if I do. I don't want to go to all the work of making a quilt and then have the seems work lose later.
