I was wondering- do you use double thread or single? Do you use cotton thread? Do you just do a running stitch or do you do a stitch that's kinda like an embroidery stitch? I hope this is making sense to you. I am trying to figure out a small project I can do on a ride to DFW next week. Car rides bore me silly if it's going over the same road I've seen a gazillion times before. Attached is a picture of what I did - partly hand pieced and finished with the machine because hand stitching it was taking me too long while I was figuring out the pattern. It's going to be a controlled scrappy Lucky Star. I love the variety of scrappies. Anyway, any help on my questions would be appreciated.

I use single thread and do a tiny backstitch.

I use single cotton thread running stitch. I backstitch after every needle load of running stitches.

Your star is beautiful!

I love to handpiece in the evening while watching baseball games. I do the same as Abby.

You might try some different types of needles until you find which works the best for you. I used to like sharps. Now my arthritis doesn't allow me to bend the fingers on my sewing hand very easily, so I use a longer milliners needle. I also work with needle until it feels dull or gets bent and then I ditch it. Life is too short to struggle with dull needles.

Thanks for the tips. I'll see what kind of needles I have.

I use a single cotton thread but I use the English paper piecing method. The quilts that I hand piece are usually like grandma's flower garden, impossible to piece by machine.

Do you know the FM Store on Sunshine and Fremont? It's kinda messy because it's jammed up, but I LOVE that store! The ladies in the there seem to be pretty knowlegeable and helpful.
