Just wondering how many of you have joined your local quilting guild. I join about three years ago and have had the opportunity to hear a lot of wonderful guest speakers, take workshops, and just get out of the house and be with other quilters. At our last meeting we hit the magic number of 200 members. We have a morning meeting and a night meeting to accomodate everyone.

We have door prizes, lotto blocks, quilt challenges, an annual auction which is our one and only fund raiser - no others needed. The auction is held in early December with dinner and doorprizes and it's always so much fun. There is also an annual three day retreat but I have not been able to make it yet since it's held out of town and I can't leave my business for that long. I here it's a blast!

Within the guild there are several quilting bees - each group has their own theme: scrappy, crazy, woolie, applique, nickel quilts, hand quilting, machine embroidery, and some just do whatever floats their boat.

The guild is almost as much fun as this board!

I actually belong to two guilds and both are a thirty-five minute drive from our farm. My smaller guild has 68 members and is fairly traditional. The larger guild has 125 members and has a more varied membership with a wider range of interests. The smaller guild has more hands on workshops while the larger guild can afford more speakers. This past fall, we brought Jodi Barrows all the way from Texas up to Canada. I really enjoy guild activities and am on the executive of both guilds. I have met some of the most interesting creative women that I never would have known otherwise. They are such a fun, caring wonderful group of friends and I would encourage any quilter to give their local guild a visit.

I belong to the guild here in town. We have 300 members and are able to bring in some big speakers. I make about half of the meetings because of other commitments and have not made any of the workshops because of work. We have all kinds of small groups going, do 2 large give-aways a year, last year we gave away over 700 quilts. There are raffle prizes and block of the months and all kinds of things, most of which I am not involved with because of work.

I belong to the quilt guild here. I love it. We have almost 300 members. We hold a quilt show every other year (just had it January 2010). We have a.m. and p.m. meetings once a month, including door prize and raffle table. We do charity quilts for the local NICUs at our hospitals, and also for the Paul Newman Turtle Camp about 50 miles from here. We have bus trips to the larger quilt shows, and have guest speakers about 9 out of 12 months. Usually the workshops given by the speakers are on Fridays, so I can't go because of work, but we have about 3 a year on Saturday, and I try to go to those. We do quilt challenges, BOM and Quiltfest once a year, which is demonstrations of techniques. We also have a once yearly "yard sale" where everyone can bring their quilt related stuff they want to sell. We have the birthday people bring the refreshments, and they also get to pick a FQ as a birthday present.

I have been wondering if there was one in my area. How do I go about finding it?

You could ask at your LQS. That's how I found the two I belong to.

Boxer's mom, see if this helps. There is usually a state quilt association, that will have a listing of the guilds in your area. I found this, hope their is one on the list for you.http://www.quiltguilds.com/colorado.htm

Our guild is very small, we had an active one a few years back but it broke up. So myself and another gal announced in church that we would like to get a group together and we now have 12, and growing, thats meets twice a month in the church. We mostly do our own thing and help each other with projects. But right now we are starting a brown bag project. We put a block of our choice in a bag with or without fabric, depending on it you want scrappy or not, and pass it around so everyone will make a block. We did this last year with a row by row. Lots of fun.
