mandorla - vesica piscis

mandorla - almond
vesica piscis - bladder of a fish

fancy names for a football/pointed oval shape commonly used in applique work -

linear and fusiform leaves also have this shape

Jane A. Stickle (maker of the Dear Jane quilt) used this shape a lot on/in her blocks

I couldn't find "mandorla" in either of my college level dictionaries, but it can be googled.

how about calling them "petals" instead? Somehow, fish guts just don't go with quilts - It's just WRONG!
