Thanks for the laugh. I tried reading it to my husband but kept cracking up mid-sentence.

Although this is a knitting program, I think it would work fine cut out of fleece:

This one shows how you can position buttons and buttonholes:

Edit: It needs to be snug so the chicken doesn't get its foot caught in the material. The knitted sweaters have a bit of an advantage in that respect:

In South Kingston, RI, there was a lady that dressed her chicken for all the holidays, even graduates at the University of RI, too. It was placed on top of her mailbox. She did that for many years. They were adorable.

After reading more of this post, I realized this vest was for a REAL chicken. The lady here had plastic chickens. I say chickens, for her chickens were often stolen.

Apparently that's a thing, Blue Bell. I grew up with a neighbor that made custom capes for her concrete duck statue. She had different ones for every month of the year & special ones for any holidays. Too bad she made it look so cute because once the Travelocity commercials came out, people started stealing the duck to take it on holiday. She'd get postcards & letters from the duck on its travels, and eventually it would find its way back home but sometimes not for a 5-6 months. She was as heartbroken by each theft -- especially the first few -- as if someone had kidnapped one of her children. It was hard not to find it comical ... it was a clothed duck statue!!!
Bree, I guess that dressing ornamental chickens isn't unusual after all. I don't remember how long the RI lady did this but she continued for a long time. All good things come to an end, or came to an end, when she passed away.

Some people put a vest or coat on their hens so that the rooster doesn't tear their backs up while breeding.
Mike'sgirl is right. They do not need clothes to keep warm. It started with chicken aprons, which covers their backs because roosters' spurs will rub the feathers right off their backs, especially their favorite hens.
