Quilt top = 62x66
Fabric for border = 40x42
What's the largest width I can cut strips for the border to make sure I have enough to go all the way around. I can't believe I can't calculate this...
Thanks

62+62+66+66=259, 10 for extra = 266
266/40 = 7 strips needed. 40 available inches divided by 7 strips = 5 1/2". You'l have 1 1/2 " extra for straightening the fabric. (I don't think you wan to cut strips 5.71 inches.)
5 1/2" it is.
Thanks for showing your work! I have been using a free app on my daughters ipod!Originally Posted by irishrose
Does this take in to consideration that when I sew borders to both sides, you then have to added border measurements to top and bottom? If not, you can use blocks in corners!!!!Originally Posted by irishrose

OH-oh, an error. I have a reversal problem. First total is 256, but it didn't change the right total of 266.
alikat110, there will be enough because the fabric is wider than 40 inches. The extra picked up on the strips will cover the 10 1/2 needed to take care of the first border. Also I added in 10 inches for extra, but you're right, that is a consideration. I just cut binding and I think my mind was there.
