Thread: I Need Help Identifying this block please!!

Thank you, everyone!!! I am a relatively new quilter, so while I can see how it is made, I have no idea of the size of the pieces that would be needed to get a 12 inch block!! I really appreciate all of the help!

So it's 3 x 3 for the units and you want 12" block.
If that;s the finished size ... after sewn in to the quilt ... then 12 divided by 3 equals 4.
Each square would be 4"x4" plus seam allowances .... meaning 4-1/2"x4-1/2"
Use the photo as your guide as to what fabrics you would use in each position.

Nancy, this block is so simple. You need 4 each HST in a dark color, 4 each HST in a medium color and one square in the solid. You've already got the picture for a guide. YOU DON'T NEED A PATTERN, and if anyone asks you can always say that your forgot it's name.

You're welcome!

Also, create the block as it will look once sewn into place .... then add on the 1/4" seam allowances once you know what the pieces are going to be. This example it's simpler to do, being that each of the nine are the same sized. Another time, you might have different sizes. So as a hint for the future .... graph paper can be your friend. Sketch it out and then go from there.

Now I bet you too, can figure out how to do this if you wanted a 6" or 9" block!
And honestly, I think it'd be much prettier done with smaller blocks ... looks more daintier and finer IMHO!

I finally looked up this block in my "1001 Patchwork Designs" book by maggie Malone. It shows the block with only one print color under the name of "FORMAL GARDEN I". I'm sure it's listed with other names, elsewhere.

I also googled "formal garden" and that block comes up with the center block being in the print fabric.

At any rate-----------whichever way you put it together, it's an easy, yet quite attractive pattern.
