I need a Suggestion for Bonding

My brother and I have grown apart over the years. I want to make him something but I'm not sure what. I've tried to bring it up but all he's say is he's good. Any of you seasoned quilters have an idea? I want to do something with dark greens and blues. Kind of a manly quilt.

I would go with something simple like a rail fence. Maybe plaids or flannels.

I really like the BQ pattern by Maple Island quilts. Here is a link to her pattern page. The BQ pattern is about half way down that page.

I made "split decision" for one of my brothers in masculine fabrics. I made a version of rail fence, but the fabrics were scrappy so there was not a real path to the fence. I've also done rectangle in a rectangle. I made a triple irish chain, a Bonnie Hunter String X and a hunters star -- all for men. To me I try to keep the piecing simple and the fabric masculine.

Find out what he is into, see if there is a fabric line for it. Like Realtree for the hunters, sports, and so on.

I made the top for an "American Heritage" lap quilt (fortunately, it was not yet quilted), and, when my brother saw it, he fell in love with it, and asked for a king-sized one for his bed. So, I enlarged it into king-sized and made matching shams. It turned out so well and he loves it. It's a free pattern: http://www.robertkaufman.com/quiltin...ican_heritage/

Some men think they don't need another "blanket", and have no idea what you are giving them. Nor do they care. Is your aware of the money, time and effort it takes to make a quilt?

Not a "knock" on your brother but sadly, it sounds to me that he's trying to say that he's just not wanting a quilt. There are many, many people that do, so I'd make one for someone that will really appreciate it.

Never regret growing older, its a privilege denied to many.

I made my husband a lap quilt that he actually uses and seems to like. It was made with jeans material and fleece. He throws it over himself when watching TV in the evening. Name: IMG_4754_1.JPG
