I really like the colour choices and like both the layouts. Love it that changing the layout can make two different looking quilts. My choice is layout 2. Well done, I'm sure he will love it.

I have used both layouts, but prefer the first. It is strictly a matter of taste. You have made good choices here.

I prefer #1. The light looks like hillpeaks, and the dark looks like canyons.

I love the way you've added the borders! Sort of 'eases' into the dark of the outside one! Can't wait to see it finished!
