Default I Never Realized How Quilting Relaxes Me

My daughter and her two children ages 4 and 15 months recently moved in with us, and it was a sudden move, and we had to drive to MD to move her. Then we had my older daughter visit. Next my husband's daughter visited so today was the first day things seemed normal.

I moved my sewing room to our bedroom to let the baby sleep in there. My daughter's husband had beaten the four year old so he is suffering from that and having a lot of acting out behavior. I finally was able to quilt almost two hours today and it felt like such a stress reliever! I'm going to try to quilt while the baby is taking his nap in the afternoon. I just feel less stressed and more relaxed.

I hear you. Our soon to be 21 year old grandson from CA moved in with us here in IA after HS graduation. He is bipolar and has other learning disabilities, but has high IQ. Thank goodness we have just built a shop on the farm and have built an efficiency apartment in it for him. Quilting kept me sane and continues to do so as we help him become a completely independent person.

You know his high IQ might equip him for something wonderful. Is he arty? Or maybe a quilter? There is a gifted talent in him in something if you can find it.

I too find it very calming to just sew, play with colors, and just putter around in my sewing space. It is so much a part of my routine that I get anxious when its been too long in between sessions.

Thank goodness your daughter and grandchildren escaped that dangerous situation. I will pray for them. Glad your quilting is helping you remain calm in the face of all these transitions. Enjoy the time time with your grandchildren too.

When my daughter and her two young children moved in with us suddenly several years ago, quilting kept me sane and grounded. Now she is happily remarried and the recipient of several of those quilts. Things will get better, it may take awhile, but time and quilting is very healing.

So many of us find solace and comfort in quilting.

Quilting has grounded me more than once in my lifetime. Keep sewing, keep praying.
