Ok, I am new at this and need some help with patterns and terminology....what is WIP?? And what is a childs "I Spy" quilt and where can I find a pattern?

I lost my fiancee two years ago and have taken an interest in quilting....have finished a flip flop quilt for my youngest granddaughter and now need to make a quilt for the newest grandson born the 20th of March. Can anyone give me ideas? Thanks.

Hi Texasannie, Welcome!! A WIP is a work in progress. We use that abbreviation a lot around here. :D Up at the top of the quilting board you can do a search for "I spy quilts" & probably fine something about them here. I know I've seen something about them on this site but I can't remember when. Sorry to hear about your fiancee. Glad you found quilting. It is good therapy & lots of fun (even adictive). Try searching for Baby quilts on this site also. I know that there have been some real cute rag quilts posted recently. There are a lot of other people here who will be able to jump in & give you some more ideas. Welcome!

I made one a few years ago. I used the pattern from Simply Quilts--a tv show that used to ge on HGTV. If you go to the HGTV website, I'm sure you can still find it.

Here's what one looks like. The hardest part is collecting fabric. I did many swaps to get all the pictures.

I am working on two I spy quilts now for my grandaughters. I'm using the pattern on www.quiltville.com/

It's called I Spy a 4 patch. It goes together real fast and I love making 4 patch blocks. I'll post pics soon.

I made one for my grandson that is like the one Pam described. I alternated novelty blocks with 4 patch blocks. I have some of the novelty blocks left (6.5") if you want some. Send me a pm and I'll send them to you.

Here is one that I am doing. (Sorry about the glare in the photos!)

I had heard of I Spy but didn't know what it was either. I googled pictures to see what others had done. Seems they use hexagons a lot. But being new to quilting I didn't want to cut all the hexagons and figure out how to put them together. So instead I used 4 patch and snowball. It makes the bowties in between the picture blocks.

I belong to a quilt group that receives 4x4 of new fabrics each month. To find the rest of what I needed I shopped ebay and found a lady there that sells 4x4 in either girl or boy prints. I figured that was cheaper than heading to JoAnn's and coming home with all the "extra" things I find.

Hope you will post pictures of yours!
