Make a 4" finished friendship star and the rest in red and white strips.

OK what size squares do I start with to get a 4 inch square???

2" squares will make a 4 1/2" unfinished friendship star. I send out free templates if you want to use a template to cut your squares.

I also have a tutorial for making easy HSTs if you want.

Or you can use a 1 1/2" template and make an ohio star.
4 rows with 4 blocks in each row will make a 4 1/2" unfinished quilt block.

I can not think today ,,,what if I wanted to make the star portion a blue and white pinwheel to finish at 4 inches square what size are the starting squares???
In order to get the stripes to align with the square I really need to end with an even number.

Here's a real easy one...I've made lots of this one over the years for different projects.
