Does anyone know what Juki was around about 7 or 8 years ago? My friend bought a new one around then and I loved it but I don't know which one it was. She has since passed away and who knows who got her machine.

It was probably the Juki TL98Q which preceeded the current Juki TL 2010 Q.

That's what I would think too. The current model is very similar to the older model, except has some additional very nice features. I would actually recommend getting the 2010Q. You would love it just as much as your friend loved hers.

Or it could have been the TL98E.
Mine is that old and it's the TL98Q, I LOVE it, she sure has helped me put out some quilts, well over a few hundred!!!!
