Default My new Christmas present!!

I was surprised Christmas morning by this under my tree:

And when I opened it I found:

It's a Singer Slant-O-Matic 401!!!

I saw it at a shop that deals in old sewing machines. She buys machines that are in excellent condition only and then hauls them from NE Oregon up to SW Washington to have them gone over and tune up and cleaned. I am going to use her for retreats and classes. She's kind of heavy, but not near as heavy as my other two machines, so she'll be a breeze to carry.

I haven't had time to sew on her yet with my son being home for Christmas and going to in-laws for the holidays, but I'll take a spin on her next week. I'm so happy! It looks just like the one I traded in when I bought my first Viking in 1981. It was my mom's. So, I kind of have a piece of my mom back.

Oh, I forgot to tell you: she came with the original manual and the original box that holds all the feet and accessories. I don't even know what most of the accessories are for. They look foreign to me. I will have to go back to the store we got her from and ask what each gadget is for. I already went to ebay and bought 25 bobbins and a 1/4" foot and a set of different feet. Yippee!! Nothing like this ever happens to me! Until now!

Jeanne she is fabulous! I bought one just like her at Goodwill last summer but of course she didn't come with a case or a manual or accessories! Sews wonderfully though. If I decide to keep her for the long haul I'll try to find things.:

Hey, I have one just like that! It also was my mom's and my sisters and I learned to sew on it. Enjoy!

This machine will sew a "perfect stitch" every time. I have many used old and newer machines and this is the best stitch by far. The slant machines let you see what you are sewing - I love them. I wish you all the best with your new beauty!! Congratulations!!

Thank you very much! I learned to sew on one of these. I wasn't very good. My first attempt at pants came out as a skirt and I was so upset my sister had to rip out the seams and fix it. But I made my kids their clothes when they were little. It came in a cabinet and I traded it in for a new plain old Viking that didn't do much. I could kick myself! That's why I wanted it so much. So, I feel vindicated somehow. I don't know why, but I do. I feel like I got her back!!
